Thursday night’s violent act that claimed the life of 54-year-old Shelley Kristine Praill has been provided by the landlord as reason to evict her surviving family members.

On the night of April 28, members of the Lethbridge Police Service responded to the Praill home in the 2300 block of 18 Street North following reports of an assault. An injured Shelley Kristine Praill was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to the wounds she suffered in a stabbing.

Praill’s daughter, 28-year-old Jessica Lee Ann Praill, faces a second degree murder charge in connection with the incident.

Saturday, the remaining members of the Praill family were informed the lease on the home they rented would be terminated:

The notice of eviction indicated that due to acts of violence by you or your guests, the Landlord hereby elects to terminate this lease.

“I have no money for a damage deposit, a pet deposit,” explained Jennifer Praill, Shelley Kristine Praill’s daughter. “I don’t have anything now.”

Jennifer is now boxing her family's belongings under a cloud of uncertainty.

“I just had my house released to me yesterday after the police were done with it and I'm planning her funeral,” said Jennifer. “Now, I have to pack all my stuff, all my sister’s stuff and I want nothing to do with her right now.”

The unnamed landlord tells CTV she inquired with Service Alberta and the organization confirmed that she does have the right to evict her tenants given the circumstances.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Jennifer’s best friend to raise money to help the surviving members of the Praill family.
