Many of Canada's Olympic athletes train in Calgary, including diver Blythe Hartley.

On Sunday, Hartley's friends gathered in Calgary to watch her compete in the three metre springboard final.

She narrowly missed reaching the podium with a fourth-place finish.

Even though there has been a lot of talk about disappointing medal counts for Canadian athletes, those who know Hartley best, including friend Karen Harris, couldn't be happier with performance.

"We're just so proud of her. You can see the focus in her face. She doesn't let anything get to her. She's a tremendous athlete."

Igor Kopecky, head coach with Dive Calgary, says, "I'm really happy for her. Her performance was fantastic. She did all her dives very well."

Hartley dedicated her Olympic performance to the memory of her older brother, Strachan, who passed away last year from cancer.
