The return of warm temperatures has the town of High River experiencing flooding of a different sort.
Snow banks and buildups of ice continue to melt at a faster rate than catch basins can handle. Several streets in the southern Alberta town are under a layer of water while crews attempt to thaw catch basins and clear drains to improve water drainage.
According to High River officials, priority is being placed on areas where property damage may occur.
High River Operations staff members are experiencing signs of progress in their continued effort to clear roads.
Town residents who feel their property is at risk of being damaged, or anyone who wishes to report a water issue, is asked to contact the High River Operations Department at 403-652-4657.
In June of 2013, High River suffered extensive damage following a rise in the water level of the Highwood River.
