There are now 14 confirmed cases of the measles virus in the Lethbridge area and officials say one case is severe enough to require treatment in hospital.

So far, all of the measles cases have been in non-immunized individuals and the majority of those cases were contracted through a known case.

So far, just over 600 people have taken advantage of the mass immunization clinics around the southern Alberta city.

The message from health services remains the same, if you are sick, stay home.

According to health services, one dose of the measles vaccine is 95 percent effective in preventing measles and paired with a booster the protection is closer to 99 percent.

Officials say it could take two to three months before the outbreak runs its course.
