An inexperienced driver is being blamed for a crash that significantly damaged a strip mall in northeast Calgary.

A Calgary Transit driver was passing a shopping centre in the 900 block of 36 St. N.E. at around midnight when he spotted a vehicle driving directly into the mall.

The driver didn’t remain at the scene of the crash.

The woman was later found ten minutes later in the southeast.

Police say they’ve spoken with her and determined that she was practicing her driving skills.

She told them that when she hit the gas pedal, she crashed directly into the storefront.

Charges are pending against the driver.
