A Saturday evening collision in the southeast has claimed the life of one man.
Emergency crews responded to the 2900 block of 50 Ave. S.E. following reports of a collision involving a car and a semi-truck.
According to police, the driver of the semi was attempting to cross 50 Ave. when an eastbound Pontiac Grand Am collided with the truck’s trailer.
“The car did end up proceeding under the trailer of the semi-truck,” said Acting Sgt. Kirk Moore. “It did remove the roof of the motor vehicle and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The driver of the Grand Am was considered to be in critical, life threatening condition but his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
The identity and age of the deceased have not been released. The driver of the semi-truck, and his dog, were not injured in the collision.
The intersection was closed for several hours following the crash. Police have collected statements from several people who witnessed the crash and an investigation into the collision continues.
“It’s too early to tell whether there was driver inattention, alcohol or speed as contributing factors,” said Acting Sgt. Moore.
