Calgary’s Police Chief Roger Chaffin and Mayor Nenshi will be sitting down to discuss the results of a recent workplace review for the CPS that revealed some startling details about the force.

The internal review, released last week, revealed that members claimed inappropriate or disrespectful treatment by supervisors or other members.

The complaints included allegations of inappropriate pictures being sent to members and sexual assaults.

The review also mentioned that some female members felt punished for being pregnant and other members were worried about the repercussions of coming forward with the allegations.

Now, Chaffin and Nenshi, along with Howie Shikaze, chair of the Calgary Police Commission, Deputy Chief Bob Ritchie, Bureau of Corporate Support and Kathleen Fraser, Respectful Workplace Advisor, will be gathering to discuss the steps needed to address these concerns in the CPS.

Chaffin wrote in a letter last week that he had accepted many of the recommendations in the review already and the CPS is working to make all members feel respected.

On Monday, the CPC said it was confident that Chaffin’s work would make the force stronger and solve many issues; however it also criticized members about going public with their concerns instead of bringing them up during private meetings.
