Calgary police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection to the death of Gatleak Metkurjock on a southwest street two years ago.

Emergency crews were called to the 2100 block of 16 Street S.W. at about 2:30 a.m. on January 25, 2012 after a witness called 911 and reported a man in distress in the street.

The man was found on the ground in front of a residence and was taken to hospital in serious life threatening condition.

Gatleak Thor Metkurjock died from his injuries in hospital the next day and the cause of death was determined to be from blunt force trauma.

Police say they do not believe it was a random attack and on Tuesday arrested a man without incident.

"These individuals were known to each other prior to the party. This was a dispute between several individuals  that escalated into a deadly confrontation," said CPS S/Sgt. Doug Andrus.

Investigators say charges of second-degree murder are pending against the man.

"He had been interviewed during the course of the investigation but I don't think he was expecting us today," said Andrus.

Police say that the accused was under 18 at the time of the incident and will not be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
