Police say that a 20-year-old man involved in a serious crash on Metis Trail on New Year’s Day has died in hospital.

They say that Ramil Pesa, also known as Francis Pesa, died of his injuries on Monday.

Users of the website Reddit posted the news earlier this week.

At about 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the scene of a crash on Metis Trail just south of Country Hills Blvd. N.E.

According to police, a 2010 Dodge Ram was travelling southbound on Metis Trail when it crossed the centre line and collided with three northbound vehicles.

The driver of a 2011 BMW 328XI, a 20-year-old male, was rushed from the scene in critical, life-threatening condition. His passenger, an 18-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance.

A pregnant woman, in her twenties, was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Her condition is described as stable.

36-year-old Kulwinder Singh Chohan, the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup truck, was taken into police custody.

He’s been charged with:

  • impaired driving
  • impaired driving over 0.08
  • impaired driving causing injury

Those charges are likely to be upgraded as police continue to investigate.
