Calgary police were called to the scene of a shooting incident in the 100 block of Crowfoot Way N.W. on Tuesday afternoon.

CPS spokesperson Kevin Brookwell says that officers were alerted to a suspicious vehicle at Crowfoot Crossing at about 3:40 p.m.

"We had a uniformed officer approach the vehicle. As he was approaching the vehicle, the vehicle sped off. In fact, in doing so, mounted a sidewalk and struck two elderly pedestrians. Shortly after that point, uniformed officers challenged the driver in the vehicle. At that point a police service firearm was discharged, I understand that one occupant of the vehicle was struck. At this point that person, along with the two elderly pedestrians have been taken to a local area hospital," said Brookwell.

"Three people have been taken to hospital at this time. One by EMS, that is an elderly female in her late 70s who is in serious but stable condition, so non-life threatening at this time, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision. As well an elderly male has also been taken to the hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition, actually transported by police for the ease of that," and another patient has also been taken to hospital by EMS with undislosed injuries," said Stuart Bridaux, Public Education Officer with Calgary EMS.

Police say that two other people are in custody and that there is no indication that the incident was a bank robbery or that it was connected to the bank.

ASIRT has been notified and will take the lead on the investigation.

More details are expected to be released on Wednesday.
