Police are looking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a sexual assault in northwest Calgary on Boxing Day.

On December 26, a woman was walking from the Brentwood LRT Station when she noticed a man following her.

The man suddenly grabbed and dragged her to an alleyway near Blackiston Drive and Brentwood Road N.W.

The victim fought her attacker, but police say she was knocked down and the suspect struck her in the head.

The woman continued to scream throughout the attack and eventually she managed to escape.

She suffered only minor injuries as a result of the attack. Police say she did not know her attacker.

Investigators say they are reviewing surveillance video of the incident, but are not releasing any footage because it would compromise the investigation.

They do say, however, that these types of attacks by strangers are particularly concerning.

“We don’t know if he was stalking her from the station,” says Staff Sergeant Bev Voros with the CPS Sex Crimes Unit. “We’re looking into that right now. That’s why we’re asking the public to come forward, we’re trying to find out if he was following her or whereabouts they did meet up.”

The suspect is described as:

  • Aboriginal male
  • About 35 to 40 years old
  • 183 cm or 6’ tall
  • Heavy build
  • Pock-marked face
  • Medium-length, black, stringy hair
  • Was wearing a dark-coloured jacket, a dark-coloured hoodie pulled over his head and dark pants

Police say the offender was last seen walking southbound on Brentwood Road.
