Two people are dead after a shooting at a home in the northeast community of Redstone on Tuesday evening.
Police were called to the home on Redstone Manor N.E. at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of shots fired and a woman saying she was injured.
When crews arrived, they found a 38-year-old man dead in the front passenger seat of a vehicle inside an attached garage. A 34-year-old woman was found in the driver's seat and was rushed to hospital where she later died.
Police say the couple were in a common-law relationship and the woman is known to police, and say this shooting is believed to be gang-related.
“It would appear, which is typical in these types of incidents, that the victims were possibly being monitored, arrived at the residence, pulled into the garage and the attack occurred at that point,” said Insp. Don Coleman, CPS Major Crimes Section.
A child was also in the vehicle but was not injured.
“I believe the five-year-old son was the son of the female victim, he was in the back of the vehicle at the time, it’s unknown to police if whoever is responsible knew the child was there or not,” said Coleman.
Autopsies are scheduled for Thursday and names will be released once this is completed.
Neighbours say the area is full of young families and they are shocked that this has happened.
“It kind of scares me because I have two kids,” said Parm Gill, neighbour. “They go to school in the morning and come back in the afternoon, I don’t know really what is happening here, I haven’t seen this kind of commotion here in four years.”
“This is very scary, it’s a really quiet neighbourhood, its mostly kids and families here, so this is really out of the ordinary,” said Ramat Qureshi, neighbour.
Police have not released a description of any possible suspects.
