Hundreds of girls hit the ice at Winsport to try and set a new World Record for the most participants in a ringette game.

267 girls, of all ages, played ringette at the facility on Friday and the game will take about six hours to complete.

Olympic speed skater Catriona Le May Doan was there cheering her daughter on.

"Ringettte Canada is celebrating its 50th anniversary and they've been doing road shows across the country ,trying to get more awareness of ringette and what a great game it is and I started playing ringette before I speed skated so I understand what good skaters this sport can build," said Le May Doan.

Northwest Ringette organized the event and the girls were outfitted with new jerseys for the occasion.

It will take a couple of months for Guinness to confirm whether it is in fact a new World record.
