Flowers and stuffed animals mark the spot on the highway where four people died in a shooting last week and at the other end of the country a game of catch was played to remember two of the victims.

Friends of the victims have placed a memorial on Highway 2 near the scene and the pile of letters and keepsakes continue to grow.

Early Thursday morning Tabitha Stepple, 21; Tanner Craswell, 22; and Mitchell MacLean, 20, were killed on an Alberta highway near Claresholm, allegedly by Stepple's ex-boyfriend Derek Jensen.

The driver of the car, Shayna Conway, 21, was shot three times but is expected to survive. At the end of the rampage, Jensen fatally shot himself.

Conway was shot with a 9mm weapon in the stomach, thigh and shoulder and had surgery on Monday at Foothills Hospital.

The tragedy unfolded after Derek Jensen reportedly ran into the group at a pub where he is said to have become agitated and pushed Stepple.

It is believed that Jensen then followed the group out onto the highway where he rammed into the back of their vehicle.

Conway is reported to have described the events to police and said she pulled over after the crash and got out to see what had happened, when she was shot several times.

Still conscious, Conway told police she then watched as the shooter fired his weapon into the car, killing her friends before fatally shooting himself.

Friends of Jensen say they are shocked to learn of the allegations against the 21-year-old, including police reports that he was carrying three loaded weapons with him on the night the shootings took place.

On Monday, a game of catch was held at MacLean and Craswell's former high school in P.E.I.

Kevin Whitrow, principal of Charlottetown's Colonel Gray Senior High School, said he got the idea on Friday morning when friends shared stories about how Tanner Craswell would always play catch with his younger brothers, regardless of the weather.

"My reaction was that I felt like doing that myself. It seemed like a way that I wanted to respond to this," Whitrow said.

A memorial service will be held for Tabitha Stepple on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Lethbridge.

Services for Mitch McLean and Tanner Craswell will be held in Charlottetown on Thursday and Friday.

Sixteen members of the Lethbridge, Vauxhall and Prairie Baseball Academies will be going to PEI for the funerals.
