Jonathan Lytton is a lucky man.

The University of Calgary professor was rock climbing Saturday on Cascade Mountain, when he fell about 20 meters and was left dangling from a cliff on the rock face.

His rope caught him and stopped him from falling any further.

His climbing partner was able to pull him onto a ledge and call for help.

The injured man, who momentarily lost consciousness when he fell, was rescued from the mountain by helicopter.

Lytton, who is a professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, appeared to have a broken ankle, dislocated shoulder, broken ribs and a possible head injury.

His helmet was cracked.

The fall happened at "Dan's Delight", a very popular climb.

Laura Lytton told CTV Calgary on Sunday that her husband was still in hospital and was doing as well as could be expected.
