The family of Shayna Conway is praying for a full recovery and is amazed at her resilience.

Conway is the sole survivor of a murder suicide that claimed the lives of four others on Highway 2 last Thursday.

She had surgery on Monday and the prognosis for a full recovery is good but her injuries are serious and her family is worried about her future.

A spokesperson for the family said the young woman had eight hours of surgery but she still can't move her left leg or wrist.

"Where the gunshots were and how it happened, the fact that she's alive at all is pretty incredible," said family spokesperson Rob Dale.

Conway was shot with a 9mm weapon three times and doctors hope she will regain movement in the limbs as the swelling goes down.

Dale says Conway remembers everything that happened saying "Shayna is very emotional, she's thankful that she's alive but most of the time when she's awake there are tears, she's concerned about the family members and thinking of them and wishes she could express her love to each of the other families."

Her family has made it very clear that they are sending their best wishes to all four of the other families who are affected by the tragedy.

Rob Dale is also Conway's pastor and says she still has a long road to recovery.

"Right now she's communicating through writing on a board, so it's even more difficult because she can't express how she's feeling fully about everything," said Dale.

It is expected that Conway will spend at least another three to four weeks in a Calgary hospital.

Both of her parents are now by her side and the family is in the process of setting up a trust fund to help with Conway's treatment and recovery.

The account has been set up at TD Canada Trust.
