Former Premier Ed Stelmach released the following statement on Friday:
"Marie and I were very saddened to hear of the passing of former Premier Ralph Klein. Premier Klein's vibrant personality touched all Albertans and throughout his career he easily connected with people from every walk of life. The news of his passing has surely saddened all who knew him, and certainly all who served with him in the Legislature," said Ed Stelmach.
"We shared a similar political path - municipal and then provincial politics - but no one compared to Ralph when it came to his ability to bring a smile to the faces of his colleagues and even his opponents. I know we will spend the next while thinking of Colleen and their family during a difficult time, but I also know that those who knew him best will be recalling many fond memories."
"Premier Klein will forever be my Premier, as he was when I was first elected. I was honoured when he asked me to be the Party Whip under his leadership and later a member of his cabinet under his guidance. I will be eternally grateful for the opportunities he gave me. Marie and I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Colleen and family on his passing," concluded Mr. Stelmach.
