Statistics Canada took a look at spending across the country last year and new numbers show that Alberta households spend more every year than people living in other provinces.

On average, Canadian households spend $62,183 and essentials like food, shelter and transportation account for just over 60 percent of that number.

Albertans averaged about $74,000, which is nearly 50 percent more than the lowest province, New Brunswick, where people spend just over $50,000 per year.

The data also found, that people with children spend significantly more and that single person households are now the majority in Canada.
