An 18-year-old man has succumbed to the injuries he suffered in a Tuesday evening hit-and-run on a highway west of the town of Penhold.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Innisfail RCMP responded to a location on Highway 592, approximately 4 kilometres west of Penhold, following reports of a crash.

An 18-year-old man, accompanied by a friend, had been longboarding along the highway when the teenager was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The teenager’s injuries proved fatal.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop following the collision.

RCMP are asking for public help in locating the offending vehicle and driver. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has seen a vehicle in the Innisfail area with damage to its front passenger side, is asked to contact the Innisfail RCMP detachment, 403-227-3342, or Crime Stoppers.

The identity of the deceasead and the make and model of the suspect vehicle have not been released.
