Construction of a new 2,000 stall parking lot at the Foothills Medical Centre is set to begin this weekend but the long term parking gains will be preceded by short term parking pains.

The three year construction project in the hospital’s main parking area will see the closure of Lot 1 outside of the hospital’s main entrance.

Throughout construction, public parking will be available in the following lots:

  • North parking lot (adjacent to 16 Avenue Northwest)
  • South underground parkade (under the South Tower)
  • East parking lot (near the Women’s Health Centre)
  • West underground parkade (near McCaig Tower and the TRW building)

To ensure patients and visitors have priority access to parking, a temporary 1,200 stall parking lot for Foothills Medical Centre staff and volunteers has opened near the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

A new parking system will go into effect on Monday, September 26, 2016 at all Foothills Medical Centre parking lots where visitors provide the licence plate of their vehicle and pay for the estimated length of their stay. The system will replace the manned, gated booths and is expected to improve traffic flow.

According to Alberta Health Services, parking rates will remain unchanged.
