Calgary police have concluded a six month investigation and charged three men with conspiring to commit murder in connection with a gang related rivalry.

Police started the investigation into a plot to kill a Calgary man in September 2012 which resulted in the charges.

Three Calgary men are alleged to have conspired to kill another man, who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for an unrelated shooting.

“It’s not a charge that we see very often, so there was some planning involved and I won’t speak to how elaborate it was because that’s going to speak to the evidence and you’ll hear it in the court case, I’m sure,” said CPS S/Sgt. Steve Drennan.

Police say all four men are known to the CPS Guns and Gangs Unit and that they did notify the intended target.

“Part of the ongoing suppression efforts that we undertake with the Guns and Gangs Unit includes some of these unique investigations and investigative techniques that we take on, along with that and in this particular case, a duty to warn was completed with the intended victim of this crime,” said Drennan.

The men were arrested on Friday, April 26 and are now facing the following charges:

  • Trong Minh Nguyen, 29, was arrested in Saskatoon with the assistance of the Saskatoon Police Service and has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
  • Henry Le Nguyen, 26, was arrested in Calgary and is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
