The trial for a former Calgary teacher accused of sexual abuse resumes on Tuesday in Indonesia and the prosecution is expected to call its last witnesses in the case.

Neil Bantleman was arrested after an investigation was launched into allegations that three kindergarten students were sexually assaulted at the Jakarata International School.

Bantleman, a former teacher at Calgary’s Webber Academy, is being held along with teaching assistant Ferdinand Tjiong and has been in custody since last July.

His wife and family maintain his innocence and have been lobbying the federal government to step in and intervene.

Tracy Bantleman says Tuesday is expected to be the last day for the prosecution to call witnesses and that the judge in the case is asking participants to stop speaking to the media about the trial.

“The judge continues to raise her concerns regarding the reporting of the case in the media. This is an issue that our families are currently discussing. Neil and I aim to seek more information on the legal basis of the judge’s request for participants of the court to refrain from speaking about the trial proceedings,” she said in an email statement on Sunday.

She says the judge has also imposed time limits on the questioning of witnesses.

The trial is expected to be completed in April.
