The problem of burst water pipes is continuing in Calgary, with another major break occurring in an alleyway in a southwest neighbourhood.

The break occurred in the 6300 block of Crowchild Trail, along Longridge Drive in North Glenmore Park.

Emergency crews arrived on scene to find water gushing out of the ground.

A large amount of water was flowing down the alley and onto Longridge Drive, flooding the road and quickly freezing over.

A number of homes were also affected by the flooding, with crews needing to help get water out of at least two basements.

The City of Calgary has called for sanding trucks to deal with the icy road conditions while other workers are on scene working on the break.

This is just the latest break during the cold snap, with crews being called to nearly 50 incidents.

Calgary firefighters say they are called to about a dozen burst pipes every daily as the temperatures fluctuate.
