In just a short time, 17-year-old Yasmene Saghir has become a powerful player on the court and that’s one of the reasons she’s been earmarked by Mount Royal University.

Saghir lead the Lady Lakers Basketball team in their march through the Chestermere High School and is one of seven seniors that led the school to the provincial championships.

Yasmene says the experience has been overwhelming.

Her all-around talent is why Team Alberta chose her for their under 15 and under 17 programs.

In a recent game, she picked up 23 rebounds and 23 points.

She is concerned about the transition to a new team, but feels it will be a good experience.

“I’ve been here for a while and Mr. Utley’s been my coach for a while. It’s going to be hard to transition from here to a new team and new coaches. It’s pretty exciting – it will be a good experience.

Yasmene Saghir is the CTV Athlete of the Week sponsored by Big Chief Beef Jerky.
