A collision involving a motorcycle on Stoney Trail N.W. near the Trans-Canada Highway has claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail at approximately 4:15 p.m.  Preliminary reports indicate the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved. Police believe the woman lost control of her vehicle and struck a barrier.

According to EMS spokesperson Adam Loria, a woman was transported to hospital by ambulance in critical condition.

The identity of the woman has not been released.

An investigation into the crash is underway but alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.

The CPS Traffic Unit is investigating the incident. Following the crash, traffic was delayed on the off-ramps connecting the eastbound and westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway with northbound Stoney Trail.
