The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating an ATV crash on Calgary's busiest road.

Sunday afternoon a 21-year-old woman drove an ATV off her family's farm near Gleichen.

Drivers spotted her on Highway 22X in the aftternoon and called police.  RCMP and Calgary police caught up to her on Deerfoot Trail.

Police say she was going 80 kilometres-an-hour and when she turned onto Southland Drive, she hit a fence and crashed.

She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and remains in hospital.

ASIRT says it appears police tried to keep the woman safe, but they still want to talk to witnesses.  RCMP say the woman is mentally challenged.

An ASIRT investigation is standard procedure when there is a collision with any police involvment.
