A northeast baseball diamond is looking a whole lot better thanks to a collective Saturday morning effort.

The revamp of the park is in honour of Deb Lee, a nurse by training, who has been recognized as one of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame’s Everyday Sports Heroes. Lee received the nod for her tireless dedication to the Bridgeland-Riverside community and her role in promoting active living for people of all ages.

Lee says she was blown away by the honour.

“I’m not an athlete, I’m just an everyday person trying to make a difference,” says Lee. “There’s been a lot of opportunity to do that in Bridgeland.”

“I live in Bridgeland and I want it to be the best it can be.”

On Saturday, the community association along with members of the City of Calgary, Molson Coors, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and local volunteers came together to refurbish the local baseball diamond.

The group planted trees, flowers and painted tables and benches as part of the program which promotes, recognizes and celebrates the grassroots community leaders that make participation and leadership in sport possible for others.

A plaque dedicating the refurbishment effort to Deb Lee will remain on display at the diamond.
