Police are searching for a suspect involved in a hit and run crash that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries last week.

Chad Ainsworth was crossing Macleod Trail at 39 Avenue S. when he was hit by a southbound vehicle at about 1:45 a.m. on December 21.

Ainsworth was in a marked crossing and investigators believe the car was travelling at about 90 km/h when it hit him.

Ainsworth,32, was thrown 20m to the road and was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his back, head, shoulder, leg and ribs.

Police say the driver made no attempt to brake or stop following the crash and they are asking the public for help to identify the vehicle and driver.

The vehicle is described as:

  • White
  • 1996-98 Pontiac Grand Am
  • Likely has substantial damage to front end and windshield

Witnesses were able to take down the first two letters of the vehicles licence plate, "BD".

Ainsworth has been in hospital for over a week and can still barely move.

"I like hockey and snowboarding. Those won't be happening any time soon," said Ainsworth from his hospital bed. "I won't be physically active for a few years at least and even then I'll have underlying injuries, I already have a metal plate and three screws in my leg, a shoulder that will probably hurt for the rest of my life."
