Friends and family of Keith Riddiough are breathing a sigh of relief after the 60-year-old motorcyclist reemerged in Mexico following an unprecedented period without phone contact.

Riddiough had left Carstairs in December as part of a solo motorcycle trek through the United States and Mexico as he made his way to the Mexican resort city of Acapulco.

Following a nearly two week period without hearing from Riddiough, which was out of character for the solo traveller, family members contacted the Canadian Embassy in Mexico. During the disappearance, there was no activity in Riddiough’s bank account

Riddiough’s family created a Facebook page asking for help locating the motorcyclist.

Photos of the 60-year-old, circulated through social media, led to an unknown person recognizing Riddiough at a gas station outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Riddiough was notified of his ‘disappearance’ and was told to phone home.

On Sunday, Riddiough’s niece, a resident of Rimbey, Alberta, confirmed to CTV that her uncle has contacted his family. The missing motorcyclist said he had been without cell service for an extended period of time.
