The Calgary Board of Education says they have been informed of two new cases of measles at schools in Calgary.

One case is at Sherwood School, a Grade 5 to 9 school in the southeast, and Henry Wise Wood High School in the southwest.

The school sent home a letter to parents of students at Henry Wise Wood recently, informing them of the news and saying that some students and staff will be required to stay home from April 12 to 29.

Officials say they are doing all they can work with the AHS to prevent the spread of the disease. AHS will be contacting parents whose children are not immune or protected against measles at both schools.

"Every case of measles is a concern for public health. We do our best to identify anyone that might have been exposed and try and prevent further transmission," said Dr. Judy MacDonald from AHS.

Any missed time will be made up during, through plans developed by the CBE, or after the quarantine period so studies aren’t negatively impacted.

More information can be found on the school's websites.

The notification comes after a similar notice was given at Western Canada High School, where two students there were confirmed to have contracted measles.

That also led to AHS issuing a warning for anyone who had been to two southwest eateries during separate periods in late March.
