Commuters who rely on the Chinook LRT station will need to find an alternative route in the near future.

Starting January 14, the station will be closed as the building undergoes renovations including the construction of a four-car platform.

To accommodate the needs of transit users, a temporary bus terminal will be set up on 3 St. between 59 Ave. and 60 Ave. for regular buses and shuttle buses. The shuttle buses will transport people to the 39 Avenue LRT station.

"The shuttle buses run at the same frequency as the LRT system does now,” says David Cooper, senior transit planner with Calgary Transit.  “So five minutes during peak service, 10 minutes for services in the midday and early evenings, and 15 minutes after that."

The cost of the renovations is estimated at $14 million and the station is expected to be up and running again in August.
