Weekend wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres per hour could send snow damaged branches plummeting to the ground in and around Calgary and the city is asking Calgarians to take measures to avoid personal injury.

““In the interest of public safety, Calgarians are reminded to take extra precaution in areas with trees, particularly mature trees,” said Nico Bernard, City of Calgary Parks Manager. “Hazards continue to exist and may be exacerbated with strong winds. We ask that people avoid using parks and pathways with trees if you can. Be aware of your surroundings, particularly from above.”

To report a fallen tree, citizens are asked to contact 311 by phone or online, unless the tree poses a life threatening emergency or has caused a power line to spark or fall to the ground. In the event of an emergency, Calgarians should call 911.
