A part of Canada’s aircraft history will soon be calling Calgary home.

A Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk. 5 jet arrived by truck in the city on Friday morning.

It is one of the Canadian Air Force’s most recognizable jets and was a mainstay on NATO airfields in France and Germany during the early years of the Cold War.

The aircraft was found in Reno, Nevada. It will be restored by staff and put on display at the Air Force Museum of Alberta.

“When it retired from the RCAF, it was flown in the United States as a target aircraft by another company. We just purchased it with the Air Force Museum of Alberta and we'll be restoring it and putting it in place by the end of this summer,” says Gary Watson with the museum.

The Sabre will take its place as the final of three jets in the Ken and Roma Lett Cold War Exhibit.
