One person is dead and as many as five people have been injured following a Friday afternoon crash on the Icefields Parkway near Weeping Wall.
According to officials, at approximately 2:30 p.m., two vehicles collided in a head-on crash on Highway 93. The driver of a third vehicle struck the wreckage, swerved to avoid a direct crash, and rolled their vehicle.
One person was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
STARS Air Ambulance airlifted one patient, age and gender not confirmed, to the Foothills Hospital in serious condition.
Ambulances from several stations in the area responded to the crash to transport as many as five patients. The condition of the patients has not been confirmed.
RCMP closed Highway 93 in both directions from the Columbia Icefield to the Saskatchewan River Crossing. The highway reopened shortly before 9:00 p.m.
