Emergency vehicles were seen all over the southwest community of Braeside as crews battled for control of a two-alarm fire at a condo complex.

They were called to the scene on 19 St. S.W. at about 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Officials say they needed to have the extra help to keep the fire from spreading to other units, all of which had wood frame constructions.

They managed to contain the fire to just the one unit.

The owners of the home are grateful that everyone is okay.

Jayne Lacerte says she is still shocked over what happened to her home, as she recalled the scene. “He went around the back to see if our patio door was open because of our cats. I don’t know what else to say – I’m numb.”

She says that her family has made alternate arrangements for the night.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but crews say they’ve ruled out lightning from Thursday evening’s storm.
