A fire early Sunday morning has destroyed two homes in the northeast community of Castleridge.

The fire started between two houses on Castlebrook Road.  When firefighters arrived, one house was fully engulfed and the flames had spread to the place next door.

“We were really worried because…the flames were too high and the wind was really blowing and it was coming towards our house,” says Abdullah Aamif who lives beside the burning homes.

Firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading any further. “It was an aggressive attack was called for…large amounts of streams of water were used to bring the fire quickly under control,” says Paul LeBlanc, the Acting Battalion Chief.

Three people were home at the time and managed to get out.  They were looked at by paramedics but didn’t need any more medical attention.

Firefighters rescued a cat that had been in one of the burning homes for about 20 minutes while smoke and flames filled the house.

The cause is under investigation.
