Nearly a dozen people were forced out of their apartments early Saturday morning after a fire broke out in their northwest complex.

The Calgary fire department was called just before 2 a.m. after the blaze quickly spread through a business on the main floor of the building.

Dennis Graham with the fire department says there were a lot of flames inside the building when they arrived. “Our crews did a quick attack and managed to knock it down fairly quickly. We evacuated residents from above the complex into a different area and hopefully we’ll be able to get them back into their suites.”

No one was injured in the blaze including a pet bunny which was rescued by fire crews.

Some residents were able to return to their apartments a few hours later.

Officials are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
