A judge has found a former Calgary police officer not guilty of molesting a girl twenty years ago.

Stephen Huggett was charged in August 2013 with invitation to sexual touching with a child under 14 years and sexual interference with a child under 14 years.

The victim, now 29, was just seven years old when the alleged assaults took place, claiming that Huggett was introduced to her through her mother.

She told the court on Tuesday that she often stayed at Huggett’s home and showered with him a number of times.

The victim, who cannot be named, said he also gave her wine and touched her inappropriately.

The trial took just three days for the judge to make a decision on the matter.

He said that the Crown had not proven its case and the two witnesses who testified, the girl and her mother, had conflicting testimony about what took place.

Huggett retired from the CPS in 2007, after 25 years with the force.

He does have a history of sexual offences, having already served time in jail in 2009 for possession of child pornography.

Huggett did not share any comment following the judge's decision.
