A former stampede wrestler is using his fame to help others, and that makes him an Inspiring Albertan.

He was once known as Cowboy Dan Kroffat.

After his wrestling career he went into business and now, in his seventies, he's helping out charitable causes.

Wood’s Homes is one organization he supports. The children’s mental health centre has been serving Calgary families for more than a century.

Kroffat has teamed up with the lion’s club to provide a play area and climbing wall. He is also working toward getting a kitchen built to start a culinary program for wood’s clients.

“We're hoping to raise a hundred and fifty thousand dollars and I'm spear-heading this campaign to help them get this new kitchen built which will help kids between the ages of  18 and 24 find a career when they leave Wood's Homes. “ said Kroffat.

Peter Wittig of Wood’s Homes says the culinary program goes beyond teaching cooking skills.

“They're really at a stage where the types of skills in terms of being reliable, being dependable  knowing how to follow instructions showing up for work and all of those types of ancillary skills that are necessary. “ says Wittig.

For the role he plays in helping wood's homes support families in difficult situations, Dan Kroffat is our Inspired Albertan this week.
