A Calgary man is facing first-degree murder charges in connection to a homicide on St. Patrick’s Day in 2012.

Police were called to an altercation in the Sunset & Vine Sports Bar and Grill at 2220 68 St. N.E. at about 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from stab wounds.

Mario Alberto Gomez, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say witness accounts show Gomez was standing inside the bar when he got into an altercation with another man and was stabbed.

The offender left the bar quickly, along with a group of friends.

On Friday, police charged Michael George Delday, 24, with first-degree murder in connection with Gomez’s death.

Delday is currently in police custody on an unrelated matter.

Police say they do not believe this was a random attack.
