Police are looking into whether inattention played a role in an incident with Calgary’s CTrain on Tuesday night that left a man dead.

LRT service in the northeast quadrant of the city was shut down for several hours after a man was struck by the train at around 8:30 p.m. on February 25.

Police say the man, in his 20s, was crossing the street at 12 Ave. and 36 St. N.E.

He was rushed to hospital shortly after, but died of his injuries.

They are looking what kept him from hearing the train sounding its horn.

Witnesses at the scene claim they saw the man wearing a set of headphones and couldn't hear any of the noise from the train.

However, police say they haven't found any headphones on the man or at the scene.

"When the driver saw him, there's no indication he saw or heard the train," says Staff Sergeant Paul Stacey. "Not sure what was going on. We will do an autopsy to determine if there are any sobriety issues."

The train would have been going at about 50 km/h at the time of the crash, and police say the driver wouldn’t have had time to stop.

All the lights and barriers were in full working order at the crossing as well.
