A Saturday morning incident on a body of water near Stavely, Alberta has one man fighting for his life in Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to the Pine Coulee Reservoir, approximately 120 kilometres southwest of Calgary, following reports of an overturned boat.

Members of the local fire department deployed a boat and retrieved a man from the water. An EMS crew assessed the man on the banks of the reservoir and, given his condition, a STARS Air Ambulance crew airlifted the man to the Foothills Medical Centre. The boater is considered to be in critical, life threatening condition.

It is not known how long the man had been in the reservoir water.

Claresholm RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
