The suspect in a Sunday morning assault in Medicine Hat, which sent three people to hospital, has been arrested after stealing a vehicle in an attempt to evade police.
Shortly after 4:00 a.m., police responded to a Medicine Hat residence in the 800 block of 3 St. S.E., following reports of a violent assault. Two injured people were inside the home and a third victim was located a short distance away.
EMS transported the three patients to hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been released but one person required additional medical treatment and was airlifted to a Calgary area hospital.
Police identified the alleged offender as 26-year-old Jacob Lucien Shevchenko. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
At approximately 9:20 a.m., police located Shevchenko near the Medicine Hat College campus. The 26-year-old, in possession of a stolen vehicle, led police on a thirty minute chase throughout the city, which ended without incident in the Rossland area of the city.
Shevchenko was arrested and remains in police custody.
Police continue to investigate the matter.
