The name is the same, only the location has changed. The new Ernest Manning High School is getting rave revues from students.
"All of the brand new technology and it's just looking beautiful," says grade 10 student Halina Deptuck. "I don't know what to say."
The previous location of the Ernest Manning high school had a capacity of 860 students, while capacity in the new building is 1,800.
Enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year is currently at 1300 students.
School principal Myra Hood explains the increase in registrations.
"A lot of people are returning to the Calgary Board of Education from private schools, from the Catholic Coard, and from charter schools," says Hood.
Sureya Mandani is one of the students who chose to attend Ernest Manning instead of returning to private school. She lives close to her new school and she likes the new surroundings.
"There's so many places around here that are neat," says Mandani. "There are new opportunities with the staff and the outlook on the new perspective of the school. The course options selection was pretty cool."
Ernest Manning was not the only public school to change locations.
The National Sports School has relocated to Canada Olympic Park and is nearing its student capacity of 160.
2011-2012 is the first year for Sir James Lougheed School. The all boys school has 80 students registered.
Principal Dr. Garry Jones says it's a new experience for both students and teachers.
"The staff understands boys and their learning needs," says Jones. "One of the things is high energy. Boys love to read information books or comics and graphic novels. They need movement breaks during the day and as much teaching as possible through activities."
