A Twitter post applauding the decision to place a photo depiction of Premier Rachel Notley on a golf course fairway in Brooks has drawn criticism.

On Saturday morning, Twitter user @kenfleury posted the photo to his account. According to Fleury’s post, the target was placed during the oilmen’s golf tournament. "Just love the #notley target at the oil men's golf tourney @Dfildebrant"

The BIg Country Oilmen's Association tournament was held Friday at the Brooks Golf Club. A tournament organizer told CTV the Notley sign was not meant to be violent or anti-women but says the sentiment was definitely anti-NDP.

Representatives from the Brooks Golf Club say they were not aware of the target.

Calgary-Varsity MLA Stephanie McLean was among those who took to Twitter on Saturday to condemn the Notley target. McLean questioned the tournament's alleged approval of an attack on a female politician, referencing the recent murder of British MP Jo Cox.

The NDP's Marie Renaud, the MLA for St. Albert, was not amused by the fairway target.

That's not funny, that's not a joke," said Renaud. "I don't know what that is but I think a majority of Albertans don't find that funny."

"If you're looking to score humour points, that's not the way to do it."

Saturday afternoon, Ken Fleury deleted the tweet and issued an apology.

Fleury’s tweet included a mention of Derek Fildebrandt’s twitter account but there is no indication the Wildrose MLA for Strathmore-Brooks attended the tournament or was aware of the target. The following statement was posted on Derek Fildebrandt's Facebook page shortly after 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
