Police are investigating the situation involving a piece of debris flying off the top of the Calgary courthouse during the height of Monday's storm.

Calgary, for the most part, got off pretty easily from a strong storm on Monday evening, but heavy winds did cause a large piece of metal to fly off of the roof of the courthouse building and hit the ground.

No one was hurt and no property was damaged.

Police did shut down all traffic between 6 Ave. and 7 Ave.

They are investigating whether any action should be taken against the contractor working on the courthouse.

Many areas in and around Calgary were hammered by heavy rain and hail with communities east of the city under serious tornado warnings during a storm that blew through on Monday afternoon.

The warnings were first issued at about 5:30 p.m. when at least one funnel cloud was spotted just north of Gleichen.

Just about three hours later, the weather had completely cleared. All the warnings and watches were lifted later on in the evening.
