A man was attacked by a thief who broke into his Castleridge home in the middle of the day and took his car.

Police say the thief likely didn’t expect anyone to be home, but the 62-year-old resident was there and said the suspect demanded money and then sprayed him with bear spray.

The suspect then took the resident’s car keys and drove his vehicle right through the garage door.

The man's nephew says this is the last thing his family needs since his uncle lost his job a few months ago and his health has been declining.

Kevin Chung was at school when he got the call from his uncle, saying he was robbed and injured.

"He broke in there, he used a can of bear spray and sprayed right in my uncle's face, it was coated red and messed up," he said.

Police are looking for the suspect and the stolen vehicle described as a red 2012 Hyundai Sonata.
