Guests flocked to the Calgary Zoo's revamped Prehistoric Park in 2015 and zoo officials have responded by extending the tenure of the animatronic dinosaurs.
This year, the 18 robotic dinosaurs and park upgrades brought new life, and crowds, to the section of the zoo north of St. George’s Island and west of the zoo’s main entrance.
“This year's experience has shown us that the focus on dinosaurs is a crowd favourite within our zoo community as well as for our many tourists.” says Roz Freeman, Calgary Zoo special events advisor. “Bringing the animatronics back in 2016 is a must and we are looking forward to creating even more interactive experiences for our guests.”
In September of 2014, the version of the Prehistoric Park that dated back to the early 1980’s was closed to the public to allow crews to install the robotic dinosaurs that roared to life when activated by motion sensors. The
Prehistoric Park will close for the season on Halloween and reopen in spring of 2016.
According to the Calgary Zoo’s master plan, the section of the zoo that currently houses Prehistoric Park will eventually include animal experiences including ‘Beyond Great-Wall Amur Tigers’ and a Tropical House.
