Police have charged a 19-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Calgary businessman in October 2014 and say a third man will be charged on Wednesday.

A warrant was issued in June for Jean Bertrand Havyarimana in connection to the robbery and murder of Maqsood Ahmed and police say he turned himself in on Monday.

On Tuesday, Havyarimana was charged with robbery and second-degree murder in the case.

“He turned himself in by himself. It was early yesterday morning, prior to 6:00. He turned himself in to our Court Services Section,” said S/Sgt. Colin Chisholm, of the CPS Homicide Unit. "The fact he turned himself in is cooperative but this is an investigation that has been going on for nine months."

Ahmed was carrying cash and receipts after closing the money-lending business he owned in northeast Calgary when he was attacked and robbed. He was stabbed and later died of his injuries in hospital.

Last month, police arrested Lloyd Kollie, 19, and charged him with second-degree murder in Ahmed’s death.

“Mr. Havyarimana and Mr. Kollie were active participants in the robbery and attack on Mr. Ahmed,” said Chisholm.

Investigators have not recovered any of the stolen money but did find the bag Ahmed was carrying at the time of the robbery.

Chisholm says investigators have notified Ahmed's family about the arrests.

"Obviously these charges aren't going to bring back Mr. Ahmed but they're happy with the amount of effort and these charges actually coming to fruition," he said.

Police say a third man, who is in custody on unrelated charges, will be charged on Wednesday with robbery, accessory after the fact to robbery, and accessory after the fact to murder.

He will not be named until after he is charged.
