An afternoon fundraising walk around Olympic Plaza raised more than $150,000 for the YWCA of Calgary and left hundreds of men nursing their sore feet.

The annual YWCA Walk A Mile In Her Shoes had teams of men, as well as individuals, cramming their feet into high heel shoes and attempting to take a short noon hour walk in the downtown core.

Participants raised funds through donations and all proceeds will benefit women and their children escape domestic violence.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, participants had collected more than $155,300. The YWCA continues to accept donations at Walk A Mile In Her Shoes.

The event has raised more than $2 million over the last eight years.
